Senior Associate – ‘Africa, Justice and Reconciliation’
Ian Linden has Ph.Ds in Biology and African Studies from London University and is now a Visiting Professor at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. Past Director of the Catholic Institute for International Relations, Ian has lived and worked in Ireland, USA, Malawi and Nigeria, and written on the impact of Catholicism on civil conflict in Zimbabwe and Rwanda, and on the rise of Islam in the north of Nigeria. In 2000 he was awarded a CMG for his work on human rights. Ian has been an adviser on Europe, and Justice and Peace, for the Dept. of International Affairs of the Catholic Bishops Conference of England and Wales. Past research has included projects for DfID (UK government) on faith and development (esp. Islamic initiatives in W. Africa) and for the Commonwealth Foundation (on multi-faith programmes in the Commonwealth). His current work focusses on the psychology of violent extremism. Previous publications include A New Map of the World (DLT, 2003) and Global Catholicism (Hurst, 2009).
