South American political economy and development
Dr Christopher Wylde is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. He has written extensively on South American political economy and development trajectories, including two research monographs: Latin America After Neoliberalism and Emerging Markets and the State, written after several years in the field in Argentina, Brazil, and Malaysia. In addition, he has published several peer reviewed articles as well as editing three further books. His work emphasises the complex interplay between domestic social contracts and International Political Economy (IPE), which generates certain development trajectories over others. This expertise in the political economy of development is therefore directed through the lens of the state as an institution that is a key mediator between both domestic and international forces in politics and policy. His research thus lies at the intersection between International Relations and Development Politics.
